about

THE PATHOS OF THINGS was inspired by Japanese ambient music, or "environmental music" (kankyō ongaku 環境音楽), in particular the music of Hiroshi Yoshimura ("Music For Nine Post Cards" etc); and also the music of Brian Eno, as well as the woodblock prints of Hokusai, and the green spaces of Tokyo and Kyoto

THE PATHOS OF THINGS is an album about transience, about the temporary nature of things, about "mono no aware" - 物の哀れ - the pathos of things.

THE PATHOS OF THINGS was made using piano, guitar, synth, koto, bamboo percussion, marimba, glockenspiel, and xylophone, and ambient sounds.

THE PATHOS OF THINGS is part imaginary journey, part imaginary film score; it is an immersive headphone experience, and what Erik Satie called musique d’ameublement, or furniture music.
